ARTIST'S STATEMENT Claire Straka-Ellis has pursued creative endeavors since childhood. An early fascination of arts and crafts led her to watercolor, oil painting and, in the last 10 years, a successful business as a jewelry designer. Her watercolors and oils celebrate the beauty of landscapes and flowers. Claire's style could be described as Impressionistic and her palette knive technique gives her paintings depth and clarity. The use of beads, stones and amulets from around the world often gives her jewelry an ethnic flair. Claire's special talent for weaving and forming sterling wire comprises many of her unusual jewelry pieces such as her tiny woven silver baskets filled with seaglass.
