Clare Kuo

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Clare is from Tainan, Taiwan where she was mentored at a young age by her uncle, a professional oil painter and art instructor. Clare's interests as an aspiring artist in southern Taiwan varied from sketching and oil painting to playing the Chinese lute (pipa), photography, dance, and aboriginal art and music.

After earning an Arts and Crafts diploma from Tainan Woman's College of Arts and Technology, Clare traveled to Vancouver, BC to study fine art at Kwantlen University College. Her interest in graphic design led her to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco where she completed her Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Graphic Design in 2003.

While graphic design is a significant part of Clare’s career, painting has been her lifelong passion since a very young age. Clare has just recently started showing her first series of paintings since moving to the US.

Clare's abstract paintings are an exploration of harmony. She has a vigorous painting style and uses terry cloth and a palette knife as much as a brush to apply multiple layers of acrylic and pastel.  Her paintings employ a vibrant palette, yet the final result is a complex balance of shapes, texture and color.
