ARTIST'S STATEMENT Clare is from Tainan, Taiwan where she was mentored at a young age by her uncle, a professional oil painter and art instructor. Clare's interests as an aspiring artist in southern Taiwan varied from sketching and oil painting to playing the Chinese lute (pipa), photography, dance, and aboriginal art and music. While graphic design is a significant part of Clare’s career, painting has been her lifelong passion since a very young age. Clare has just recently started showing her first series of paintings since moving to the US. Clare's abstract paintings are an exploration of harmony. She has a vigorous painting style and uses terry cloth and a palette knife as much as a brush to apply multiple layers of acrylic and pastel. Her paintings employ a vibrant palette, yet the final result is a complex balance of shapes, texture and color.
