ARTIST'S STATEMENT Donna Grant, a Bay Area native, was influenced by creative parents and began photography, drawing, and painting as a child. Her formal education includes an AA degree from Foothill College with honors in Commercial Art, and a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in painting. She worked in Graphic Design for 25 years. In 2000, Donna resumed painting, showing work in group exhibitions and juried shows, and she received awards. She actively participated with Los Gatos Art Association on shows with curators, jurors and artists. She taught painting to adults from 2004 through 2007. In 2008, Donna began studying with the California Academy of Painters. She currently paints “plein air” in local settings and is a member of Art Guild of Pacifica. The natural world is Donna’s inspiration conveyed in art and activities. She has extensive knowledge of natural history, particularly birds, native plants, and butterflies; has led field trips, and given photographic presentations of her explorations in remote places. Donna served on the Board of Directors of Golden Gate Audubon Society, and the Vallemar Conservators in Pacifica. Donna’s paintings capture impressions of light and color in a vibrant manner through images translated from the world she experiences.
