Cynthia Rettig
BioBorn in Southern California, I moved to San Francisco to attend the San Francisco Art Institute where I received my B.F.A and M.F.A in Photography. I have exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Berkeley, Pennsylvania and Seattle, my first solo show at White Columns in New York was in 2002/2004. My photography has been published on the front cover of Creative Camera, London based photography publication and have been included in the book “As Eve Said to the Serpent: On Landscape, Gender and Art”, by Rebecca Solnit. Artist Statement I am interested in how we view and consider the natural world. Nature series explores how man is drawn to bringing the “outside” in. The need to capture the wild aspects of the nature is so strong, that it transcends into almost all aspects of our daily life including clothing, decorative items, and art. This series is on-going and some of the images were taken at an auction house, a zoo, and everyday life. I believe how we treat animals and the environment is directly related to how we treat each other—human nature.
