Statement

These works are about the act of perception—the way the mind interprets color, value, and texture and, through the medium of paint marks on a surface, defines them as visual reality.  The Views from Above , a series started 30 years ago, and the Classical California series both make metaphor for a positive view of the interaction of civilization and the natural environment.  Other bodies of work examine the darker side of the realities of existence—politics, sociology, and religion.
